Marine Grade Aluminium Composition

The ship field is an emerging industry of aluminum alloy application, and the production and processing capacity of marine grade aluminum plate has also become an important indicator to measure the comprehensive strength of various aluminum processing enterprises. With the improvement of marine aluminum plate production and processing technology, the production scale has gradually expanded, and the types of marine grade aluminium alloys have become more and more abundant. Basically, the marine grade aluminium composition is between 5000 series and 6000 series aluminum alloy, the grades are 5052, 5056, 5083, 5086, 5383, 6061, 6082 and so on.

Since are used in marine ships and other fields, the process requirements and performance standards of marine grade aluminium composition are stricter than other common aluminum sheet products. Generally, marine grade aluminum sheet have the following four requirements:

1: High specific strength and specific modulus.

The structural strength and dimensions of a ship are closely related to the yield strength and elastic modulus of the material. Since the elastic modulus and density of the marine grade aluminum plate are basically the same, the addition of alloying elements has little effect, so increasing the yield strength within a certain range is beneficial to lightening the ship structure.

2: Excellent welding performance.

At present, ships mainly use automatic argon arc welding. Good weldability means that the marine grade aluminum sheet has less tendency to form cracks during the welding process, i.e. the aluminum sheet should have good welding crack resistance, because the lost welding properties cannot be recovered by reheat treatment under shipbuilding conditions.

3: Good corrosion resistance.

Ship structures need to be used in harsh seawater media and marine environments, so corrosion resistance is one of the main signs of marine grade aluminum sheets.

4: It has good cold and hot forming properties.

Since shipbuilding requires cold and hot working, marine grade aluminum sheets must be easy to process, free from crack defects, and still meet the strength and corrosion resistance requirements after processing.

At present, 5083 aluminum plate, 5086 aluminum plate, 6061 aluminum plate and other marine grade aluminium composition products of HC Aluminum Plate have entered the shipbuilding market, and are mainly used for ship deck, engine seat, ship side, bottom outer plate and other components.
